BATANG ARONG AND THE SKY GODDEST: WHEN LOVE HUNTS FOR MAGIC

This much awaited event is set on May 29, 2010. There will be many highlights for
this cultural extravaganza. One will be a Theme Play, which will resolve around the
Orang Ulu legendary entitle “Batang Arong and the Sky Goddess: When Love
Meet Magic
”. The uniqueness that WHF Theme Play has, are the fact the stage will
be the whole village itself, and the entire play will envelope with guests in audio and
visual rapture. Last year’s Theme Play was based on the Iban community
legendary, “Simpang Impang”.

An Orang Ulu theme play based on a mythical ancient tale of love, greed, magic
and the end result when push your luck too far. It revolves around a princess
goddess named Laleng Ubong Langit from the sky who falls in love with
a noble man named Batang Arong from a Kayan village. She is granted her
wish by her father Berkilet Ubong Ladong to come down to earth as a mortal
whereby she then marries the man of her dreams.

Unfortunately, the toils and daily life of human beings does not suits her lifestyle
and she yearns for life to be easier. Hence, her husband is asked to look for
all kinds of magical instruments to keep her happy.

So great is his love for her, that he would go to the ends of the earth and risk his life
to give her what she desires. His first pursuit brings him to a sorceress who
possesses a musical instrument, a Sape’, that can produce all manners of food.
It brings great joy to Laleng Ubong Langit and the villagers as they no longer need
to look for food.

The second time he goes of in search of a magical comb which can give the princess
all the jewelry she desires. In this adventure, he encounters the Crocodile
King and gallantly walks away with the prized item.

Laleng Ubong Langit then wants eternal youth and she knows of a magical pendant
that will keep her ageless. This is by far, the most dangerous journey for Batang Arong.
It involves meeting five blood sucking sisters and a giant cobra named Long Unan.
Has he pushed his luck too far this time to please his lady love?
