WORLD HARVEST FESTIVAL 2011 SPOT PROMOTION AT SK ST TERESA

Kuching, Thursday – Teachers and student of SK St Teresa, Kuching were entertained by the 15 finalists of ethnic beauty pageant, Miss World Harvest Festival 2011 at SK St Teresa Kuching.

The appearance of these 15 finalists of Miss World Harvest Festival 2011 is a part of World Harvest Festival 2011 spot promotion activities which will be held on May 28th and 29th May 2011 at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
The finalists namely Sharifah Elya Nabila, Asheila Bakri, Princess Alma, Suljirina Lucas, Zaimeera Zada, Erlin Christopher, Faynella Saing, Mellianne Stopher, Hafiza Md. Basir, Grace John, Nor Faizah Abdul Latif, Emilya George, Dorothy Dolly, Azerina Sabri and Liyana Eddie, gave the students a great shows and entertainment to the guests.
The Organizing Committee organized some activities such as the spot promotion throughout this month to create awareness to the public about this annual festival. There will be World Harvest Festival 2011 press conference and mini concert scheduled on May 25th, 2011 at Kuching Waterfront at 8.00 p.m. Another spot promotion also scheduled on May 26th, 2011 at tHe Spring from 3.00 p.m until 9.00 p.m. Other subsidiary titles to be grabbed by the 15 finalists of Miss World Harvest Festival 2011 this week and next Wednesday are Miss Fitness Sarawak Plaza on May 22th May, 2011 at the Sarawak Plaza from 2.00 p.m and Miss Springtime World Harvest Festival 2011 on 26th May 2011 from 7.00 p.m.
The World Harvest Festival 2011 is held to steer and commemorate the unique Gawai or Harvest Festival, celebrated by most of the ethnic community of Sarawak. Previously known as the Gawai Tourism Night, this year will be the 7th year SCV organize this auspicious event. Strongly support from the Ministry of Tourism & Heritage Sarawak aiming to position itself as an international event on its Tourism Calendar.
This year’s 2 days 1 night festival will focus on the Bidayuh community, where the staging of a live theatre of the Bidayuh legendary entitled “Selanting Kuning & the Dragon King”. The uniqueness that WHF theme play have are the fact that the stage will be the whole Village itself, and this entire play will envelope the guests in audio and visual rapture. Later that night, guests can treat themselves with local gastronomy and drinks, namely “tuak” at three ethnic houses, Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu longhouses for the “ngabang” or house visit session.
The other highlight is the Ethnic Beauty Pageant, Miss World Harvest Festival 2011, which will revolve around the Bidayuh community theme. 15 beauties will be vying for the title of Miss World Harvest Festival 2011. The ethnic beauty pageant adds colours to the whole unique traditional show, where for last Miss Fair & Lovely WHF 2010, which saw 18 years old Malay lass, Cik Ummu Khansa emerged as the winner.
We shall also be celebrating the Harvest Festival with invited cultural troupes from Nitto Rong Organization of Bangladesh, Batambul Rungus Matunggong of Sabah, Kumpulan Kesenian Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and performers from Kampung Semban Puncak Borneo who are famous with their brass accesories. A series of joint workshops and international concerts and invited cultural troupes will be held during the 2 days 1 night festival, where visitors can have the opportunity to share and learn about each community and traditions, foods and handicrafts.
To further enhance this year’s festival, we have included another highlight to the festival which is the Ironman WHF 2011 competition, as the 15 finalists will exhibit superhuman strength in tackling traditional based activities such as blowpipes shooting, coconut dehusking, lifting gunny rice weighing 50kg and a lot of other obstacles. Last year, Mr. Fred Mandagi from Sulawesi, Indonesia won the title Ironman WHF 2010.
The finalists for the title Ironman WHF 2011, Mohd Firdaus, Wan Azahar, Fazri Sedi, Reinto Jamal, Syed Ahmad, Amir Hanafi, Mohd Ghadafi, Syahrul Nizam, Mustaza Zaini, Mohd Hazlamie, Rizal Jamali, Jackson Michael, Roslan Ibrahim, Jury Amirul and Khairuddin Amir will be competing in the pre-final of the competition on May 22th, 2011 at Bukit Puteri, Santubong. The finalists will climb the legendary Mount Santubong. The points will be accumulated until the final competition.
The Dayak Food Festival will also be held simultaneously on the 28th and 29th May 2011 at the Sarawak Cultural Village, where visitors can come and try out all the indigenous organic food of Sarawak displayed there.
The WHF 2011 promises to be a fun-filled event for the young and old. Bring along your loved ones and make this an affair to remember. What awaits you is a cultural extravaganza like no other.
